“DAMAGED” was the first song I heard Michael sing. It was in a tiny club called The Talking Stick in Santa Monica, California. I was instantly struck by the beauty, the intensity, and the message of the song. I had to hear it again.

After Michael finished his short set I rushed across the few feet that separated the stage from the audience and asked if he had a CD I could buy. He said he didn’t. I couldn’t believe he didn’t have anything I could take home and play endlessly over and over. Long story short, I offered to record the songs if he wanted. A week later we started recording. The sessions went on for two years and 26 songs. It wasn’t “endlessly” and it wasn’t nearly long enough.

LYRICS

DAMAGED. (Doman).

i’m standing on a block of ice
on a summer’s afternoon…
wondering why my feet are freezing
in the middle of June.

This is obscene.
This is not right, i am not right…
and nothing is clean.

——–

i’m DAMAGED.
i’m not even close to okay.
But i always expect to climb out of each wreck
and just walk away.

——–

You’re standing on your plot of earth…
waiting for it to move.
You’re wondering why nothing grows here…
when you have followed the rules.

You followed the rules…
but the rules have all changed.
And you’re not just tired, you are miswired…
and this is insane.

——–

You’re DAMAGED.
You’re not even close to okay.
But you always expect to climb out of each wreck
and just walk away.

But all you really are — is what you have known.
We’re all just shooting stars…
out here on our own.

And all we really are — is what we’ve been shown.
We’re all just shooting stars…
looking for our way home.
——–

And i’m standing on your wall of words…
with nothing to say.
i’m just waiting on a bolt of light…
to set it ablaze…

’cause…

i‘m DAMAGED.
i’m not even close to okay.
But i always expect to climb out of each wreck
and just walk away.

We’re all DAMAGED.
we’re not even close to okay.
But we always expect to climb out of each wreck
and just walk away.

We’re all DAMAGED.
We’re all DAMAGED.
